Theatre Student of the Month: April 2023

Theatre Student of the Month: April 2023

Congratulations to our Theatre Student of the Month for April... Chandler King from Chipola College! Chandler was nominated by his advisor, Raines Carr.

Here is what Raines shared with us about Chandler: "Few sophomore theatre majors can boast the performance portfolio Chandler King can. From his first performance at Chipola in Spring 2014 as Kurt in The Sound of Music to his most recent leading role of Tony in You Can’t Take It with You, King has performed in 22 productions at Chipola College. He is slated to perform in three productions before the close of the semester, making his mark at 25 productions in 10 years. King has performed in the following theatrical productions: The Sound of Music, The Wizard of Oz, The Addams Family, Southern Fried Funeral, Hello Dolly!, Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, The Wee Sing Train Musical, The Miracle Worker, Winnie the Pooh, Much Ado About Nothing, Hands on a Hard Body, Charlotte’s Web, The Taming of the Shrew, 9 to 5 The Musical, and You Can’t Take It With You. He is slated to perform the role of Archibald Craven in The Secret Garden, May 8-12, 2023. King has performed not just in theatrical pursuits, but in Chipola’s music ensembles as well. He is a member of the Chipola Show Choir, the President’s Ensemble, and the Jazz Band - adding 8 more productions to his resume. Chandler has quite literally grown up in the Chipola Theatre. He is intelligent, and positive and has a great attitude about his role, no matter how big or how small. He is a campus favorite and his acting work is always top-notch. He has a very bright future ahead of him.

Chandler is always willing to do more. He was quickly recruited for Show Choir, Jazz Band, and the President’s Ensemble and has made himself an integral part of the Fine and Performing Arts Department. His family is also an important part of the department. His sister Caroline and his mother have also performed in several productions and his dad has helped with building sets. The Kings have certainly made Chipola Theatre a family affair. King is the president of the Chipola Players Club and was elected as a sophomore representative on the Homecoming Court this year. He will transfer to Florida State University in the Fall."

Congratulations again to Chandler for all of his accomplishments and our thanks to Mr. Carr for taking the time to nominate him!
