Congratulations to Alejandra Cano, Miami Dade College - Eduardo J. Padrón Campus, for being recognized as the FCSAA Publications Division Student of the Month for this past December! Alejandra was nominated by her advisor, Emily Sendin.
Here is what Emily shared with us about Alejandra: "Alejandra Cano joined Urbana in Spring 2021 eager to face new challenges and push her creative capabilities. She has been part of the layout and design team since she joined the magazine and designed various layouts for the magazine’s 14th edition. Additionally, she has created several posters and designed our newsletter in order to recruit more members and submissions for the magazine’s 15th volume. She was also part of the team that hosted, edited, and produced Urbanites' Towards a Sustainable World 3-Part podcast series. Being fascinated with the importance of attention to detail, Alejandra is proud and grateful to be a layout member and continues to brainstorm ideas for the magazine's newest edition, our quinceañera edition.
Alejandra is the secretary of the Beta Beta Beta Biological Honors Society and is also a committed Peer-Lead Team Learner (PLTL) tutor for Organic Chemistry I. These activities have allowed Alejandra to hone her interpersonal communication skills. She is also a co-founder of the Nicaraguan Interactive Bilingual Reading Program, where along with a group of Miami Dade College student volunteers, she teaches kids in rural Nicaragua via Zoom values and life lessons through short stories while at the same time expanding their vocabulary in English. Alejandra was selected to participate in the IREX Global Solutions Conversations program, sponsored by the State Department and the Stevens Initiative this fall 2021. Alejandra is a valuable member of our team, and we are lucky to have her as an integral member and leader in our staff."
We are thrilled to acknowledge Alejandra's hard work! Congratulations to our Publications Student of the Month and thank you to Ms. Sendin for nominating her!
