Publications Student of the Month: April 2023

Help us congratulate our Publications Student of the Month for April... Anthony Wilmore from Daytona State College! Anthony was nominated by his advisor, Harun Thomas.

Here is what Harun shared with us about Anthony: "Anthony (AJ) Wilmore has been a member of In Motion for two years and has served as social media manager. Despite having such a minor role in the group, he probably has had the most impact. I was speaking with a colleague recently about my time as an advisor for student publications, and the first thing she mentioned was our social media presence. AJ maintains our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts, and he is perhaps the most reliable, prompt staff member at In Motion. Whenever I need something posted, I have learned to go directly to AJ to ensure that it gets done in a timely fashion. He always posts media within 24 hours of my requests, 48 at the latest. He is also a person of integrity. If he says that he will complete a task by a certain day, he will usually see to it that the task gets done. When I think about it, I realize that I have often taken for granted that AJ has been such a reliable constant in the newspaper. It is certainly not every day that a student waltzes into a campus activity for the long haul and contributes consistently and unconditionally. Although AJ has also taken photographs and created video content for the newspaper, his most enduring quality has been his smile, along with his positive attitude. Despite having the least amount to do at meetings, he attends more than half of the staff meetings, sharing ideas and offering to help when permissible. What I appreciate most about his presence at meetings is that he is scheduled to work at a local elementary school during meeting times. (Of course, he takes the time off to be able to make the meetings.) AJ is altogether a team player and a positive force.

About a year ago, AJ was involved in a historical documentary project that showcased prominent African Americans of Daytona Beach, featuring the work of former DSC professor emeritus Dr. Len Lempel. More recently, AJ has been communicating with the marketing department at Daytona State to establish a connection between marketing and In Motion, an endeavor that he took upon himself. He is also working with an In Motion photographer on an upcoming video series for the newspaper."

Congratulations again to Anthony and our thanks to Mr. Thomas for taking the time to nominate him!
