Music Student of the Month: March 2021

Music Student of the Month: March 2021

Congratulations to the Music Division Student of the Month for March… Lianna Rivera from Seminole State College! Lianna was nominated by her director, Dianna Campbell.

Here is what Dianna shared with us about Lianna: “Lianna is a scholar and musician. She has consistently been in the top 5% of her Music cohort. Her general education course grades are also above average. She excels in all components of music theory, including Sight-singing and Ear Training. Not an easy trifecta for most students. As a cello major, she has developed every semester, taking on more solo opportunities and advanced repertoire. Lianna recently won the Strings division of the FCSAA Student Artists Competition at our virtual Winter Symposium. SSC does not have a true orchestra for Lianna yet she works as if we do. Some students would be discouraged by this but not Lianna. That is not in her character. She is also active in the choir, as a Soprano or Alto. She is always willing to do what is needed. Ms. Rivera is the President of our Strings Club. Even in this virtual environment, she has kept the club alive. Lianna is actively applying and pursuing the next step, completion of her Bachelors in Music at the 4-year university. There is no stopping Lianna.

Lianna demonstrates leadership in all aspects of our music program. In theory class, she regularly assists her peers. In choir, she leads sectionals or plays for warm-ups. When we had live performances, Lianna led the student worker crews. She organized teams and volunteered when needed. She is President of our college Strings Club, which invites majors and non-majors of every level to come together and just enjoy playing music together. This has been especially difficult in a virtual environment. Lianna is a born leader.”

We are so proud to honor this student as the Music Division Student of the Month. Congratulations to Lianna and thank you to Dianna Campbell for nominating her!
