Congratulations to one of the Student Government Students of the Month for December... Geovany Barrueta from Broward College! His advisor is Joe Tinsley!
Here is some information about Geovany's accomplishments:
Geovany is the Student Government Secratary for Broward College Central Campus. He has shown a distinct approach in being able to listen to the voices of minorities in college, such as LGBTQ students or international students, enabling the identification of issues and how to make the campus a more diverse place. Geovany has been able to convey a vibe of positivity and energy in campus activities, in addition to inviting more people to join SGA so they can be heard and foster a strong connection between faculty and students. Beyond his energy, Geovany has created a trend called the “Scholarship of the Week” to inspire more students to apply for and explore resources outside of college that can help pay for their education. Geovany firmly believes that diversity makes a community more stable, as different backgrounds allow for the identification of solutions that can benefit everyone involved.
The SGA President and Geovany organized an event inviting non-profit organizations to demonstrate the importance of supporting communities and feeling connected to them. They emphasized the importance of keeping Broward College’s principles of non-discrimination in mind while encouraging international students to take on leadership positions. During Hispanic Heritage Month, they highlighted outstanding professors of Latin origin and expressed gratitude for their contributions to the college, inspiring more young people to see that graduating is possible. Geovany also managed to communicate with the University of Miami to enhance the student government by learning how larger institutions operate to leave a lasting legacy for future students. Lastly, but no less important, Geovany promoted various ideas on what should be implemented on campus and how to utilize funds for the benefit of the students.
Congratulations to this outstanding student!
