Miami Dade College’s Vernessa Hinnant is this week's NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Hinnant, a freshman from Selyma, N.C., saved the best game of her freshman campaign for the season finale against Southern Conference rival Palm Beach State on February 26, a game originally slated for February 16. Despite falling to the Panthers, 83-73, Hinnant scored 36 points on 13-of-17 shooting from the floor, 3-of-6 on three-pointers and 7-of-8 from the free throw line. She pulled down 11 rebounds to notch the double-double and also recorded three assists, three steals and three blocks.
