HIALEAH, FL – Being severely shorthanded due to injuries – coming into Saturday's game with only seven available players – freshman guard Lashayla Johnson played all 40 minutes and scored a game and career-high 24 points to lead ASA Miami to an 83-75 Southern Conference (SOCON) victory at The Dent.

The Lady Silver Storm (8-14) snapped a three-game losing streak with the gutty victory Saturday. ASA Miami also extended its program-record mark for wins in a season – which increases with every victory this year – and captured its second-ever win over a SOCON opponent. ASA's first conference win came over Indian River State earlier this season.

Johnson, a South Plantation High School (Fl.) alum, played a buttoned-up game against the Pioneers – adding six rebounds, four assists, a block, and a team-high three steals Saturday. The freshman scored 12 of her season-best point total in the second half, as the Lady Silver Storm turned a two-point (37-35) halftime deficit into a 61-52 lead at the end of the third quarter.

ASA Miami's second-half lead grew to as large as 12 points in the opening minute of the fourth quarter, but Indian River State responded with a 17-4 run which put the Lady Silver Storm back in the trail position (69-68) with 4:59 left to play. ASA took the Pioneers' fourth-quarter punch and responded with one more of its own. And it ended up being a knockout blow with Johnson scoring a pair of big buckets in the waning minutes and sophomores Ta'Kyla Austin and GTorria Swinton knocking down clutch free throws as the Silver Storm outscored Indian River State 15-6 over the final five minutes.

Austin, who had missed ASA's previous game at Miami Dade College with a minor foot injury, also played all 40 minutes Saturday and knocked down five three-pointers while turning in 19 points, six boards and four assists. Swinton recorded her 11th double-double of the year (an ASA record that she increases every time she records the feat) with game-high 14 rebounds to go along with 21 points.

Sophomore center Maria Semenichenko added 10 points while Toriana McDuffie added nine points and four assists.

Up Next: The Lady Silver Storm will travel to take on Palm Beach State this coming Wednesday (Feb. 6) in another largely important SOCON showdown.
