Congratulations to Miss Amanda Shoopman, a student at the Miami Dade College, Homestead Campus, who was selected as the Florida College System Activities Association Student Government Division Student of the Month for January. She was nominated by Dr. Nicole Bryant.
Here’s what Dr. Bryant shared with us about Amanda: “Amanda joined SGA as a senator in the Fall of 2017. She immediately offered herself to help in every effort and has since gone from assisting with hurricane relief efforts and climate change awareness activities to spearheading the Activities Subcommittee and organizing the largest SGA event of the term - the End of Year Supply Drive for the Youth for Christ KIX City Life program. Through her efforts, the drive garnered the support of The Children's Trust, This is for the Kids, Inc., as well as the recognition of local government including the Mayor of the City of Homestead. This project not only benefits the youth of the community, but re-focuses SGA to consider the ways in which we can reinforce the importance of education through our outreach efforts. Through this effort, she was able to ensure that local underserved kids could start the new year with new school supplies. Amanda believes it is important to help those in need and is grateful for the opportunities being in Student Government can provide.”
Congratulations to this outstanding student, and our thanks to Dr. Bryant for taking the time to nominate her for this recognition.
