Congratulations to Danilo Navarro, Miami Dade College, for being recognized as the FCSAA Publications Division Student of the Month for September! Danilo was nominated by his advisor, Emily Sendin.
Here is what Emily shared with us about Danilo: "At the beginning of fall 2019, Danilo Navarro saw Urbana as an opportunity to unleash his artistic side and raise his voice against the injustices of today's society. The first activity that would highlight his selfless desire to help the Venezuelan people was to produce a video showcasing a satirical representation of Nicolas Maduro. As the year progressed, his passion for a change never stopped. Along with other students, he was involved in creating, producing, and editing the song, "Sin límites." The music video he produced for the song brought together Urbana’s staff during pandemic times to transmit a message of equality, hope, and love. Moreover, his ability to capture unique moments with his camera got his images a place in Urbana’s thirteenth volume. Most recently, without hesitation and with very short notice, Danilo prepared a promotion video to get other students involved with the magazine. Urbana has been successful during Covid-19 because of students like Danilo. Regardless of the time, day or moment, he has given his best efforts to take the magazine to another artistic and creative level. His peers voted for him to be the first Student of the Month of the 2020-2021 academic year.
By being a member of different organizations such as Phi Theta Kappa, Tri-Beta, and Yes! Club, Danilo has had the opportunity to develop many leadership skills since his college journey started. He has participated in fundraisers for the fight against cancer, Miami Beach cleanups, and food distributions events to help homeless people in the Miami-Dade community. Thanks to these activities, he has built a network and developed his communication and leadership skills. During spring 2020, Danilo was chosen as the Secretary of the Beta Kappa Iota Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Eduardo J. Padrón Campus. As an officer of this honors society, he has shown his willingness to help those most in need during these difficult times. Along with PTK’s executive board, he created a project named “WHE (Wellbeing, Health, and Education) against Covid-19” to help children affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. To contribute and collect funds for this humanitarian initiative, he has organized many fundraisers in local restaurants such as Chipotle and Fuddruckers. Danilo is also the editor of the official PTK - Beta Kappa Iota YouTube Channel, where all the useful and important information of the chapter is posted. Danilo is a leader of tomorrow who sees his community as his top priority."
What an honor to acknowledge Danilo. Congratulations to our Publications Student of the Month and thank you to Ms. Sendin for nominating him!
