Congratulations to Marian Bulnes, Miami Dade College Eduardo J. Padron Campus, for being awarded as the FCSAA Publications Division Student of the Month for September! Marian was nominated by her advisor, Emily Sendin.
Here is what Emily said about why Marian should be our SOTM: "Marian became an English Literature major with the purpose of not only sharing her story, but also giving voice to those around her. She has steadfastly worked to participate in conferences where writers, students, professors, and judges have spoken about human rights and injustices that individuals all over the world are experiencing to bring awareness and change to the community. She was editor and art director of Urbana Vol. 12, and is currently the co-editor-in-chief of Urbana Vol. 13, with the desire and purpose of promoting art and liberty of expression.
She has demonstrated excellence and leadership through a myriad of activities. For instance, Marian was the group leader than won in the 2018-2019 state and national competition in business categories as a part of the Phi Beta Lambda, a business honors association. She is the Executive Vice-president of PBL, leading and unifying students who desire to open businesses to participate in activities that will enhance their lives as entrepreneurs and leaders. In this club, she is currently initiating workshops that will help students create resumes, enhance public speaking skills, and prepare for the upcoming state and national competitions. She has volunteered in causes to help fight gentrification, and find the cure for Alzheimer's and cancer. Marian has also volunteered to promote cultural diversity partnering with Kiwanis Club and Teatro Prometeo, engaged in activities to help the environment, and many others, accumulating over fifty hours of community service hours. Marian is working as a mentor for a first year student, directly helping him navigate through college and sharing all the opportunities that Miami Dade College and many organizations can provide him. With all these experiences and the upcoming adventures that await her, Marian hopes to positively impact society and help those around her by promoting kindness and solidarity."
Congratulations to Marian Bulnes, our Publications Student of the Month for September & a big thank you to Emily for nominating her for this award!
