Congratulations to Sonsoles Lopez, Miami Dade College - Padrón Campus, for being recognized as the FCSAA Publications Division Student of the Month for May! She was nominated by her advisor, Emily Sendin.
Here is what we learned about Sonsoles through Emily: "Sonsoles joined Urbana and has been a refreshing, innovative, and creative member of our team. She has attended every meeting and has always provided her input, especially when we decided on the magazines' visual appeal. She is now a member of the layout team, working to produce Urbana's Volume 13. She is the layout manager. Her contribution to the team includes organizing the weekly team meetings to discuss layout ideas and keep track of all needed essentials. She always provides her sincere opinion about the design and works and ensures all team members do the same. She is also in charge of updating the editors-in-chief and advisor on the progress and changes related to the layout. She has an eye for the magazine's visual appeal and enjoys playing with important design elements to provide an overall visual balance.
Sonsoles has demonstrated her leadership within the Miami Dade College community by advocating for mental health awareness through the Psyched Club. She became the club’s secretary during her first semester at MDC; not long after, she was certified as a Laughter Yoga instructor. She began guiding classes along with other students to older adults in a retirement home to give back to her community. During her second year, she was elected president of the club. As president, she has organized educational campaigns in her community to spread awareness on critical issues, including ADHD, depression, anxiety, and mental wellness. She is also one of three members representing the students of Miami Dade College in the JED Foundation Committee. She has worked with faculty, planning for the progressive and supportive mental health wellness program at Eduardo J. Padron Campus."
Again, our congratulations to this remarkable student, Sonsoles Lopez, the Publications Student of the Month! Thank you to Ms. Emily Sendin for nominating Sonsoles and your continued support in the FCSAA.
