Publications Student of the Month: April

Congratulations to Cesar Sarmiento, a student at Miami Dade College - InterAmerican Campus, our Publications Division Student of
the Month for April. He was nominated by both Professor Emily Sendin and Professor Omar Figueras.

Here’s what Ms. Sendin shared with us about Cesar: “Cesar has been awarded several scholarships and other honors that have
proven his involvement within the community. He contributed more than 250 community service hours, receiving the Gold President
Service Volunteer Award in 2017. He also received the 2017 Institute for Civic Engagement and Democracy award from InterAmerican
Campus due to his contributions to the community. He attended Narrow Ridge Earth Literacy Center in Washburn, Tennessee, where
he spent a week debating and reflecting about sustainably and Earth literacy and also took part in the 2018 Global Citizenship
Seminar in Salzburg, Austria, sponsored by the Honors College, to debate global citizenship and globalization.

Furthermore, Cesar is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, Engineers for a Sustainable World, Advocates for Immigrants Scholars, and Phi
Beta Lambda. He went from tutoring ELL students to building a house for low-income families with these clubs. During the 2017 –
2018 academic year, he joined Urbana magazine at InterAmerican Campus to work as the layout designer and photo editor. He has
been working closely with the staff to create an innovative and clean layout to showcase the works of InterAmerican Campus
students. His commitment and contribution to Urbana has played a significant role in making Urbana Volume XI a success. He also
joined Miami Dade College's newspaper, The Reporter, as well as the Harry Potter Alliance chapter, Hermione’s Army, at the
InterAmerican Campus as a photographer. His passion for the visual arts resonates in all the activities that he takes on, and
all these achievements demonstrate his excellence as a volunteer and creator.”

Congratulations to this outstanding student, and our thanks to Ms. Sendin for taking the time to nominate him for this
recognition.
