Congratulations to Sofia Angelini, St. Petersburg College, for being recognized as the FCSAA Model UN Student of the Month for November! She was nominated by her advisor, Douglas Rivero.
Here is what we learned about Sofia: "To begin with, Ms. Angelini was a student in my Model UN class during the Spring 2019 term. Of all the students that have taken the Model UN class with me over the last few years, no student has excelled in the research and writing department as much as Ms. Angelini. Her position papers, discussions and essays were truly thought-provoking and possessed an extremely high level of critical thinking. Ms. Angelini’s outstanding academic abilities are reflected in her perfect 4.0 GPA for all 33 college credits taken to date. Not surprisingly, a committee of SPC faculty members has unanimously selected Ms. Angelini to participate as a delegate at the last three academic conferences that SPC has participated—2018 SRMUN Atlanta, 2019 NMUN NY and 2019 WIMUN Geneva. Thanks to her leadership, our MUN teams snagged the Distinguished Delegation Award in Atlanta, the Outstanding Delegation Award in NY and the Best Small Delegation in Geneva. Even more, she has won Position Papers at all the MUN conferences that she has participated in. Overall, Ms. Angelini’s use of logic, critical thinking and writing explain why she has succeeded at so many conferences. Lastly, she has always done a great job of including the UN’s sustainable development goals.
Ms. Angelini’s leadership skills are also highly evident throughout her extensive participation in academic and social activities. For instance, Ms. Angelini has taken up leadership positions in such academic/social organizations as the SPC Environmental Club, Pinellas Youth Symphony and competitive athletics (trampoline and tumbling). Also, Ms. Angelini is very passionate about community engagement. Last year, she served as an intern at the District Office of Congressman Gus Bilirakis located on the SPC campus. She currently serves as a YMCA lifeguard and volunteers at SPC with our yearly Pinellas County Middle School and High School Model UN conference. Given that community engagement is the hallmark of any leader, she is someone who is going to push to better the social environment for her classmates and the surrounding community."
Congratulations to this spectacular student, Sofia Angelini, our Model UN Student of the Month! And a big thank you to Douglas for nominating her!
