Congratulations to Brendan Leverenz, Tallahassee Community College, for being chosen as the Model UN Division Student of the Month for February! Brendan was nominated by his advisor, Thomas Waller.
Here is what Thomas told us about Brendan and what an exceptional job he does within the Model UN Division: "Brendan Leverenz joined the Tallahassee Community College (TCC) Model United Nation’s (MUN) team in September of 2017, and has attended five conferences with the group since. Brendan took to the process of giving speeches, problem-solving, and consensus-building demanded of delegates at MUN conferences like a fish to water. It’s difficult to count the number of awards he’s won since, either as an individual delegate or working with the team, but it’s well over half-dozen. His energy, enthusiasm, persistence, and background knowledge makes him a standout when it comes to tackling the international issues confronting delegates. Beyond serving as a participating delegate, Brendan has also served as a Committee Director at the conference that TCC puts on for the region’s high and middle school students. All the while, he has completed his coursework, including honor’s courses, in impressive fashion, along with working to support himself. Despite all this activity, his spirit never flags, and he’s a pleasure to be around.
Brendan currently serves as President for the TCC MUN team. He took over the role at the start of the Fall semester of 2018 after the team’s assumed President-elect suddenly resigned. Despite the short notice before the semester began, when approached by the team’s faculty advisors, he committed to being President without hesitation, and got to work straight away. His leadership on the team has been very successful, leading the team to numerous awards in conferences in Gainesville, FL and Washington, DC (and, if the past is any guide, also soon in an upcoming conference in New York City). He’s been a role model for other delegates, motivating them to do better by committing himself fully as a delegate even while his Presidential duties occupy him. He’s also been highly cognizant of taking care of all the members of the MUN team, figuring out their strengths and weaknesses, helping them when they slip up, and encouraging them when they need it. It’s student leaders like Brendan that make the MUN program work."
Here at the FCSAA, we love to get recognitions just like this one, helping us remember why we award Students of the Month for those that go above and beyond. Another congratulations to Brendan Leverenz for being our Model UN February Student of the Month and our thank you to Thomas Waller for nominating Brendan for this award!
