Congratulations to Matthew Gilinson, Santa Fe College, for being selected as the FCSAA Brain Bowl Division Student of the Month for April! Matthew was nominated by his coach, Asha Brunings.
Here is what Asha told us about Matthew: "Matthew Gilinson joined the Santa Fe College Brain Bowl team a short time ago but has already made a name for himself. At the first practice, it was obvious that the team had struck gold. Not only is Matthew well-versed in a wide range of topics, but he also comes to every practice, is a superb team player, and displays excellent leadership qualities. At the FCSAA combined West/East Regional Championship tournament, Matthew placed first in the individual standings, with an average of 57.50 points per game. In large part, thanks to his stellar performance at his first tournament for the college, the Santa Fe College Brain Bowl team, became East Central regional champions.
Since Matthew joined the team for a short while, he has attended every practice. At the same time, he maintains a rigorous course load of 12 credits. He doesn't just answer questions during practice, he explains his reasoning to other team players, improving the performance of the entire team. He is often the first to arrive, comes ready to play, and is always good-natured and kind to other team members. He is a pleasure to coach."
We are happy to honor this student, Matthew Gilinson, as our Brain Bowl Student of the Month! Thank you to Asha Brunings nominating him for this recognition.
