Congratulations to Domonique Grier, Miami Dade College, Homestead Campus, our Student Government Division Student of the Month for December. She was nominated by her advisor Dr. Nicole Bryant.
Here’s what we learned about Domonique: “Domonique initially sought a position on E-Board but, due to some challenges, was not able to apply. Nevertheless, she overcame those challenges to be appointed to Cabinet. Currently serving as the Public Director of Activities, Domonique has brought new life into SGA. Due to her efforts, SGA has nearly three times the number of official senators than is required by our constitution. This is an accomplishment that I have not witnessed in the entire decade that I have spent as advisor to this organization. In addition to recruiting senators, she has been instrumental in attracting quality officers and helping them with their training and onboarding experience.
Domonique is one of the only students that I have on cabinet that works as hard as, if not harder, than my Executive Board members. She has demonstrated leadership by spearheading two subcommittees which were very successful in raising funds for the United Way - an organization that is deeply rooted in our community. In just a couple of weeks, she helped us reach our goal which has taken us months to attain in the past. However, due to her daily commitment in which she reports and leaves when the Student Life Department opens and closes (with the exception of going to class), SGA has been able to accomplish more as a unit. Moreover, she encourages club interdependence and has helped to promote the collaboration between SGA and PTK, IEEE, PBL, and Psychology Club - to name a few. This has helped to increase the level of activity on campus and build student engagement early in the term. With Domonique at the helm, I have no doubt that we will keep the momentum throughout the year.”
Congratulations to this outstanding student, and our thanks to Dr. Bryant for taking the time to nominate her for this recognition.
