Congratulations to Nick Martin, our Theatre Division Student of the Month for January! Nick is a student at Eastern Florida State College and was nominated by his theatre director Ms. Jeanine Henry. Here’s what Ms. Henry had to say about him:
“Nick joined our program in August and has taken EFSC by storm! He has gotten involved in several facets of our program and takes advantage of all that EFSC has to offer. He performed several roles in PINOCCHIO, including Gepetto, Punch, and a donkey, and made each character distinct from the others. He led the cast in creating the physicality of the characters and pointing out that this was an important element of acting in this play. He also served on the scenery committee, taking responsibility for several elements, particularly the curtain for the Punch and Judy show. He interacted well with our staff technician and displayed maturity and confidence in his communications. He has volunteered to serve as stage manager for our black history month play in order to learn all areas of theatre production. His academic work is strong as well, as evidenced by his GPA.
Nick was the student director for IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE: THE LIVE RADIO PLAY for our theatre club. He motivated students, ensured everyone felt included, and conducted extra coaching sessions on character development. We have never had a student-driven project of this magnitude be presented at such a high level and with such success. Much of that success is due to Nick’s leadership of the project. He is enthusiastic, takes initiative, and follows through. He is always pleasant and personable. He was recently elected President of our Titans Theatre Club and is organizing our next project, JEST DESSERTS. Nick has also been a student leader representing our club at events like Welcome Back and Club Rush. He has helped make these events more successful for the club and the theatre department.
Congratulations to this outstanding student, and our thanks to Ms. Henry for taking the time to nominate him.
